Shootout at Lokhandwala: True rumors – wrong portrayal?

Spurt of energy/power Habilitate for killing innocents Or to Obliterate all the Traitors Of this Universe To an extent After which Thrashers or even a Lubberly man Only Knows How to Acquit the soil Not only from Devils and Wacky but Also Live terror free Afterwards

-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-xx-x-x-x-x-x-x-xPromos: Abhishek and Amitabh are a sheer waste in the movie. Their name has been used as a movie marketing gimmick and that worked also, as in Promos Amitabh is shown leading a team of Sanjay Dutt, Sunil Shetty and many police officers and it seemed he is having a major role in the movie but actually that is the last scene when he comes out of the court along with this team. This is called height of misguiding people to go to movies through the way of fabricating promos!
Hoodlum:  Viveik Oberoi, Ronit Roy and Tusshaar Kapoor are shown as gangsters who just enjoy, dance, destroy, terrorize, kill and loot rich. Viveik works for the Don of Dubai and Tushaar belongs to another gang. Ultimately they join hands and start their own gang. All bubbly-dubbly dance numbers are filmed with large amount of money and liquor flowing inwards and outwards. They are strong, powerful, emotionless, and heartless.
Oodles: Sanjay Dutt, Suneil Shetty, Arbaz Khan are special skilled cops. Due to increasing terrorists in Mumbai, Sanjay Dutt is made head of a “Special Task Force” who has to build his team and fight against terrorists and eradicate them from Mumbai. In his search for brave, dedicated, and skilled cops he finds Suneil Shetty and Arbaz Khan and takes them in his team.
Story: First encounter is with a group of Sikh terrorists who get killed by Sanjay’s Team. Press gets alerted and a general debate starts in the city – should these brutal encounters be allowed at the hands of Cops or as usual culprits, terrorists should be jailed and then due to weak bureaucratic system, set free and again spread terrorism. Next task for Dutt’s team is “Shootout at Lokhandwala” where the above Hoodlums are hiding and Dutt gets a tip from Dubai Don against whom Viveik Oberoi has revolted. Shootout takes 3 days, bombs, missiles, cop lives and huge number of bullets. Ultimately the gangsters are killed. Lokhandwala where they are hiding is a residential house. The terror spread around the locality is genuine, the huge number of cops deputed around to kill them is surprising. A little more tactic would have allowed 3 cops only against 3 gangsters. Surprising is our Bollywood, at times a single Hero goes and blows a full gang and here a complete army of cops was required to kill three gangsters.
Noodles: The killing creates another debate and this time a special committee sits to analyze – was these killings necessary? Was it right what Dutt did? Was there any other way to handle the case? And with one line in the court our Big B – the analyzing committee and the public prosecutor wins the case and set all the cops free. Most of the times when you are having noodles, you don’t which noodle’s head is which noodle’s tail or vice versa.
Analysis: A bullet when come out of the factory does not know its destiny whether it will go inside a killer’s body or an innocent person. A stone when being cut does not know whether it will go to a temple in the form of a God or will be used to make a house or will be used to break a head. A newborn child does not know whether he will be a terrorist or a good citizen but only difference between a human being and stone/bullet is brain, conscious and intellect. A similar question was asked by Big B in the court that made the judge to give a decision in Dutt’s team favour – and the question was – “if a man with a gun is standing outside your house – what would you like that man to be – a terrorist with an aim to take your life, or a guard with an aim to save your life?”
Direction, Acting, Cast, Script, Cinematography all are good.

Jhoom Barabar Jhoom: Witty(pair)bitty(story)di tty(songs)mighty(kisses)

Cast: Abhishek Bachachan, Preity Zinta, Bobby Deol, Lara Dutta and Amitabh Bachachan = Score 7/10
Music: Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy (thnx Rohit for the correction!) = Score 6/10
Lyrics/Story/Direction = Score 4/10
The boy touches the girl’s hand by chance: At a magazine shop, by chance the boy encounters the girl at London tube train station and “the love sparks”.
Another hit by another chance: Boy comes with his snacks and finds no seat at the eating joint there except a chair empty at the girl’s table where she is already having her sandwich. And they start chirping. Both sing songs about their respective fiancés who are about to come by the same train coming from Birmingham. Boy’s fiancée is an assistant manager in a big hotel in Paris whereas girl’s fiancée is a big shot – a partner in a prestigious lawyer firm. Boy is Abhishek and the girl is Preity. Abishek’s fiancée is Lara and Preity’s fiancée is Bobby.
Third hit by chance: the train is about to arrive one hour late. They have no other option other than share their love stories. To kill that one hour, Abhishek narrates her how he met Lara for the first time and how he fell in love with her (Anaida). Abhishek is a tapori, settled in London and is involved in all kinds of number two activities. Think for a while some connection between Lady Diana and Anaida”. Preity works in an Apparel Store in London. Now it is her turn to tell Abhishek about how she met Bobby in the famous London wax museum. Use your grey cells and think again some connection between Bobby and superman”. One hour is Over.Another announcement: the train is late by another one hour. They meet again and now decide to play a game. Preity will do something that Abhishek has done before but Preity has not. Similarly Abhishek has to do something that he has not done before but Preity has. Good going so far. The tuning, intimacy and communication graph so far going upwards.
Both realize: by now both realize if they did not have their respective fiancées, they would have gelled well and would have loved to fall in love with each other after exchanging their mobile numbers. Director wanted to keep alive their chances of meeting again otherwise just imagine the probability of a girl meeting a boy in a crowded busy city again after their first meeting.Ultimately: the train arrives. Both say good bye to each other and go to receive their individual fiancée. But hang on. Abhishek receives his friend and Preity receives her friends. Point of suspense: where the hell were there fiancées?Phir uske baad: All four meet in a dance competition to select the best Dancing Couple of Southall and ultimately Abhishek and Lara win the first prize – a free trip to Hollywood.
There is a twist,  some salt and pepper, some masala …
What? Watch the movie!
My take: The way Praveen Bobby rang the bells in Amitabh Bachchan’s heart when they met first time, same bells rang in Abhishek’s heart when he met Preity in this movie. Had Amitabh not been in the movie, it would have been a super flop. His appearance, re appearance, re-re-appearance and all appearances in between filled the big gaps in the movie. Acting by all five is fantastic especially Lara and Bobby in their second role, that is not disclosed here. Story is light but conveys some hidden messages of life. One, love at first sight is very much possible. Second, if it is true love, circumstances and nature works in the favor of love. Third, Khuda meharbaan to Gadha Pehalwan and fourth Mini Skirts, Kisses and Amitabh Bachachan are still important.

There were only few people in the top three rows in the last show of a working day.The staff person while coming out asked in a pitiful tone – sahab bore to nahi hue, khair music to acha hai was something like a bald man purchases a surely effective oil from a merchant to grow hair on his head in 15 days, and when he meets the merchant after one month with the same baldness – the merchant asks him – sahab baal aaye kya?
No ROI @Rs130 per ticket.

Album: Aahat - Pankaj Udhas: Pankaj Udhas@his Best

“Aahat” is Pankaj Udhas’ first album which was released in 1980. Aahat means sound. Probably by naming his first album as “Aahat”, Pankaj Udhas tried others to recognize the sound ( “aahat”) of his style, voice and choice. Whether people like his voice or not, his selection of ghazals that he sings has been always good and equally good are titles of his albums, although he sounds monotonous and short of versatility in his voice. In this album he has sung all the numbers very sincerely, innocently and differently (and first time any person tried to deliver in that manner!). Best thing is the lyrics of all these numbers is superb and have been sung very well according to the theme of the lyrics. Lyrics being so strong, I would love to write the meaning of each of the numbers of this album…, so here we go…
1.Ab to insaan ko insaan This is a complaint on what actually is happening today in politics, life, everywhere. Just read it and you may understand what this number wants to convey, and just listen to it to get the taste of pain through his voice.
Ab to insaan ko insaan banaya jaaye, ya koi aur hi bhagwaan banaya jaye - either make human being a human being else let us recreate another God. Shareeke jurm yahan har kisi ka chehra hai, kiska insaaf yahan kis se karaya jaye, ab to insaan ko… - everyone here is involved in wrongdoings, then who will give justice to whom?
Rehnuma khud ko sabhi paak saaf kehte hain, aaina kisko yahan kaise dikhaya jaye, ab to insaan ko… - everybody claims himself to be innocent, how to show the mirror so that one realizes what all wrongdoings he is involved in.
Log chup chup ke yahan roz bika karte hain, shart hai maul ko chup chaap chukaya jaye, ab to insaan ko… - people sell themselves everyday here, only condition is that you make the payments silently without anyone else knowing about it.
2. Kehta hai kaun Kehta hai kaun pyaar ki tabeer chahiye, ankhon ke saamne teri tasveer chahiye - who says that the love in between us has to materialize, I can spend my life just by keeping your picture in front of my eyes.
3. Kaise kah doon Kaise keh doon ke mulaqat nahi hoti hai, roz milte hain magar baat nahi hoti hai – how can I say that we don’t meet everyday, although we pass through each other everyday but without any talk taking place.
Aap lilah na dekha karein aaina kabhi, dil ka aa jaan buri baat nahi hoti hai – you, for god sake don’t look into the mirror else you will fall in love with yourself (being so beautiful)
Jab bhi milte hain to kehte hain ki kaise ho muneer, iske aage to koi baat nahi hoti hai – every time when we meet, you just ask how am I, and that's all, after this we don't talk anything else.
4.Tera uljha hua daman Tera uljha hua daaman meri uljhan to nahi, jo tere dil mein hai shayad meri dhadkan to nahi – your strangled clothes are reflecting the fight of your emotions inside, and the beats of your heart are actually mine.
5.Tum aaye zindagi mein to Tum aaye zindagi mein to barsaat ki tarah, Aur chal diye to jaise khuli raat ki tarah, tum aaye … you came into my life like rain drops and went away like a night passes by slowly into a morning and nobody can stop it.
Baatein rahin adhuri, bichadna pada hamein, Tha yeh bhi itfaak mulakat ki tarah, tum aaye … we could not complete our expressions/talks and we departed, this separation was also a coincidence like the coincidence of our meeting
Shehnai ke suron mein tha maatam ka shor kyun, Sapne to aaye neend mein baarat ki tarah, tum aaye … in between the music of happiness why it seems that there is a music of mourning, i could feel happiness only in my dreams that too momenterily.
Hum bhi to muntzir hain ke, kuch zindagi mile, Aao hamare dil mein bhi zajbaat ki tarah, tum aaye … I also seek some life, why don't you come into my heart like a feeling/emotion.
Ye to kaho ke ahad kiya tha rahenge saath, Ab kyun badal bhi jaate ho haalat ki tarah, tum aaye … atleast admit that you had promised to live together with me, then why have you changed like circumstances.
6. Suraj ki har kiran teri... Music Director: Manhar
Lyricst: Sheikh Adam Abuwala
Suraj ki har kiran teri surat pe vaar doon, Dojakh ko chaahata hoon ki jannat pe vaar doon - I name every ray of Sun in my life for you.
Itni si hai tasalli ki hoga muqabila, Dil kya hai, jaan bhi apni qayamat pe vaar doon, dojakh ko - atleast competition will be there, not to say about heart, I will sacrifice my life to that extreme moment of life.
Ek khawab tha jo dekh liya neend mein kabhi, Ek neend hai jo teri mohabbat pe vaar doon, dojakh ko… I dreamt in my sleep sometime, but I am ready to sacrifice my sleeps for your love.
'Aadam' haseen neend milegi kahan mujhe, Phir kyon na zindgani ko turbat pe vaar doon, dojakh ko… where will I get a beautiful sleep, they why not I sacrifice my life on you
7. Todna toote hue dil kaMusic Director: Pankaj Udhas
Lyricst: Muneer
Todna toote hue dil ka bura hota hai, Jiska koi nahin uska to khuda hota hai, - it is not good to break a heart which is already broken, the one who has nobody in life has god
Maang kar tumse khushi loon, mujhe manjoor nahin, Kiska maangi hui daulat se bhala hota hai, jiska koi … I don’t accept that I should beg for happiness from you, who is happy with anything that he receives in begging from others.
Log nahak kisi majboor ko kehte hain bura, Aadmi achche hain par waqt bura hota hai, jiska koi … people unnecessarily blame a person who is helpless, nobody is bad but has a bad time
Kyun Muneer apni tabahi ka ye kaisa shikwa, Jitna taqdeer main likha hai ada hota hai, jiska koi … why have a complaint on your failures, whatever has been written in destiny is delivered.

Front Office Crew: Gogol (Kal Penn), Ashima (Tabu), Ashoke (Irfan Khan), Moushumi Mazumdar (Zuleikha Robinson), Maxine (Jacinda Barrett)
Back Office Crew: Story Writer (Jhumpa Lahiri), Producers (Lydia Dean Pilcher & Mira Nair), Associate Producer (Dinaz Stafford), Director (Mira Nair), Screenwriter (Sooni Taraporevala), Set Decorator (Lydia Marks & Sharmistha Roy), Lyrics (Nitin Sawhney), Casting (Cindy Tolan & Tess Joseph), Cinematography (Frederick Elmes), Music Director (Linda Cohen)
Support Office Crew: Production Designer (Stephanie Carroll), Art Director (Tanmoy Chakraborty), Executive Producer (Ronnie Screwvala, Taizo Son & Yasushi Kotani), Co Producer (Lori Keith Douglas, Yukie Kito & Zarina Screwvala), Art Director (Suttirat Anne Larlarb), Editor (Allyson C. Johnson), First Assistant Director (Michael Decasper & Dylan Gray), Costume Designer (Arjun Bhasin), Supervising Sound Editor (Dave Paterson), Sound (Ed Novick), Second Unit Director of Photography (Jay J. Odedra)
Story: This is a story of two generations of a Bengali family during the era of late 1970s. First generation middle class family moves from Calcutta to New York and trying to adopt the change from tradition to modernity, trying to balance the deep ritual roots versus the modern culture. Ashima is a classical singer and Ashoke is an engineer and both get married in their home town in Calcutta. Ashoke gets a job in US in the year 1977 after their marriage and both shift to New York City. The couple is totally strange trying to accommodate to the changed weather conditions (extreme winter) & loneliness. The funny ways of learning new technologies and culture by Ashima are the lighter moments of the movie. Few years later when Ashima gives birth to a boy in a hospital, they are required to name their son before they leave the hospital, and Gogol is the name given to the newly born boy. (The name comes into existence as many years back in 1974 when Ashoke was visiting his grandparent’s house, before his marriage to Ashima, by train, his train met with a serious accident but he survived. When that accident happened, he was reading the Russian Author Nikolai Gogol and thus Gogol becomes a good luck sign for him). Later they give their son an Indian name Nikhil. After another couple of years Ashima gives birth to their daughter Sonia. It becomes very difficult for the couple to inculcate their deep rooted cultural values in Nikhil and Sonia. Nikhil becomes a rebellion in school and adopts American culture very fast by starting smoking in school and becoming die hard rock-n-roll fan. Nikhil falls in love with an American girl Maxine who is not acceptable to Nikhil’s family. Later he falls in love with another girl Moushumi who like him is away from her Indian roots living in US. Moushumi is as confused about their Indian cultural values as Nikhil and the relationship does not shape well.
My take on the movie: The acting by everyone is really marvelous. Tabu has been consistently acting well since last many years in all her movies. Irfan is a perfect actor. The couple has lived well on screen from their youth to old very swiftly and excellently. Kal Penn and Zuleikha Robinson have acted well depicting as fighting youths between two extremely cultural values. Jacinda Barrett has also acted well as a completely independent girl fully engrossed in American culture not knowing the emotional attachments and believing only in physical relationship. Overall a perfect direction and acting and the scenes where the couple is forced to compromise with their cultural values are putting good impact.
Kids beware there are certain hot scenes.

Nishabd: ~~~A Sophisticated blue movie~~~

RamGopal Verma and his factory: An obsessed director right from beginning freaky enough to show something different every time. His obsession towards female legs, other body parts and body movements is well known by now and the same sickness he carries onto his characters too.

Story: A 60 years “Nature” photographer Vijay (Amitabh Bachchan) happily married to Amrita (Revathi) a caring, sweet, matured and balanced homemaker and both having a young daughter in her late teens Ritu (Shraddha Arya) gets caught in love with his daughter’s friend Jia (Jiah Khan) who has come to their house after their exams for vacations. Jia’s mother is divorced and lives in Australia. Vijay, a 60 years young boy falls in love with a lady of 18 years and that is the movie all about. Story Analysis: The story ends where Vijay after ruining his married life, cut-away from his wife and when his daughter has gone to US dismayed by his stupid move of declaring that he loves Jia, does not realize still what he has lost (his wife and his daughter) and does not want to suicide just because for some more days he wants to live by remembering Jia.

Had the story been made that when 18 years Jia tells 60 years Vijay that she loves him, Vijay might have tried to console her by presenting him a strong father or brother figure since he had lost trust in males as her father had divorced her mother. 27 years of successful married life of Vijay with Amrita was the first thing that attracts Jia towards Vijay. Or at the end instead of thinking of suicide Vijay feels sorry for what he has done and repents for that by uniting his family back. This is a worst ever character filmed in such a weak manner. The Superstar who has been idol and ideal for so many people of the country has shattered their respect towards him. Is it right that in the name of ART, Amitabh Bachan acts as characterless character. How would have it been taken if Harivansh Rai Bachchan had written some pornographic literature in the name of LITERATURE. WELL DONE MR. AMITABH BACHCHAN BY ACCEPTING THIS “X” RATED BLUE MOVIE. THE DOORS ARE OPEN FOR YOU NOW TO ACT IN XX AND XXX IF YOU HAVE NO RESPECT FOR THE "RESPECT" PEOPLE GIVE YOU.

Character Analysis: Jia is a distorted character that does not think like wise as per her age. She assumes she is matured enough and her confidence shakes the confidence of Vijay in himself and his family. One instance when he see her playing in water makes him mad to start taking her pictures as if he is an amateur zero experience photographer getting infatuated to any thing new or different, one instance when she kisses him makes him feel that he loves her, one tickling on his leg by her feet makes him mad starting laughing non-stop. I think kids today are much more matured than the way he was made to act. Any Tom Dick or Harry of that age could do the character of Vijay and I doubt if any Tom Dick or Harry would have accepted that role. Creativity wise there was nothing to be done by Vijay, except just taking pictures of Jia, talking to half naked or exposed Jia, taking her for outing… what was there to act in that. More powerful acting was of Revathi, Shraddha Arya and the role played by Vijay’s Bro-in-law. Most of the people don’t know the background of Jiah Khan in her real life. She is more disturbed than she is shown in this movie. Would an established female artist have accepted the role played by Jiah Khan?

Stroke by stoke, joke by joke
Difficult to soak, never try a toke

Movie Review: Guru: Trio Triumphs=Mani Ratnam+AR Rahman+Abhishek

Different shades of Gurubhai:
Gurubhai as Bunker: Guru is the middle order son of his father who is a teacher in a small village. He is loved by all in his family except his father who wants him to study in the school and get good marks being a teacher’s son which is not acceptable to Guru. Right in his childhood his character is displayed as doer, daring and go-getter with a never dying attitude. He is quite adamant on what he thinks and what he wants to do. He is not interested in school, studies and marks etc. These are all small, normal activities for him, he wants to do something different, achieve something bigger than a normal person and does not want to become an ordinary hard earner common man and teacher like his father.
Gurubhai as Maverick: Gurubhai decides to go to Far East for working and earning in a very young age. He has dreams of earning big money in life. He believes in himself (rather over-believes) and has a daring capability of doing anything to achieve his dreams. He has dreams and thinks he can fulfill his dreams. His dreams do not match with anyone in his family and this compels him to run away from his home with the help of his mother. He reaches Portugal and starts working in a company in production after demonstrating his skills in a trick game and as a roadside salesman.
Gurubhai as Gambler: Gurubhai dares to say NO to a big jump in his salary and a double promotion in his rank. He decides to come back to India and start making his own money by business. During last few years when Gurubhai has worked here he has accumulated some money with which he plans to start a small business after going back to India. He comes back to his home, makes his father happy that he plans to not to go back but equally annoys him by disclosing his mind that he intends to start his  own business.
Gurubhai meets Aish Ben: Aish Ben dances in the rain and she reminds you of her dances in Taal and Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. Guru Bhai meets Aish Ben when she gets a lifetime kick from her lover at railway station where they plan to meet and run away to start their new life. Instead Aish Ben gets a letter from her lover who shows his inability at last moment to run away with her and she gets stunned. She is weeping badly when she first time meets Guru Bhai in the running train when she does not know where she will go now and what she will do now. Gurubhai understands her situation and when he gets down and meets Aish Ben’s father searching for her, tell him to get in and take her home.
Gurubhai makes a first Big Deal: He comes to know from his childhood friend that his sister is at marriageable stage and not getting married, and his father his ready to pay a big amount to the man who marries her. Gurubhai decides to marry her and she turns out to be Aish Ben. Gurubhai marries Aish Ben. At the station when Gurubhai is about to leave for Mumbai with his friend turned Bro-in-Law, Aish Ben persuades G.Bhai to take her along with and he agrees. The seed turns into a plant and grows further into a tree, the love tree between Gurubhai and Aishben.
Gurubhai becomes an Industrialist: Gradually with his wits Gurubhai become an Industrialist and starts manufacturing Cloth (Polyester). The factories start mushrooming and he becomes a big man from a small school teacher’s son.
Gurubhai meets an over-idealist personality: Gurubhai meets Mithun Da who is the publisher of a newspaper but who prints truth and only truth in his newspaper by exposing government officials, industrialists and any actus reus in the society. Like Gurubhai hates “No”, This publisher hates “anything other than Truth”.
The Friend and Foe Factor: Gurubhai has not forgotten his friend in Far East (Mota Bhai) and appoints him a big manager in his group of companies. Gurubhai starts playing with money, government, politics, share market, bureaucracy. He starts excelling in business but in turn makes his old friend Mithun Da his enemy.
The Extremes: Gurubhai is caught in many wrong doings as exposed by the newspaper of Mithun Da, is paralysed, his business sealed but ultimately he has to part with a big booty to get himself set free and start back his business again.
Overall: Very good acting by Abhishek, Mithun and Aishwarya. The music by A R Rahman is equally good. Direction by Mani Ratnam is superb. Best part is the acting, face expressions and make-up along with the age of Abhishek Bachan. And all the numbers too are fantastic.
