Movie Review: Madras Cafe: A Bold Debut by John Abraham

Madras Café is a marvelously woven intrinsic and intense movie with a classical touch. This is a debut launch as producer from actor John Abraham and kudos to him for starting in such a challenging and non-orthodox manner. Madras Café has John Abraham in lead role as one of the most efficient agent in Indian Army Intelligence. The movie has been released on 23^rd Aug 2013 starring John Abraham, Ayushmann Khurrana, Sanjay Gurbaxani, Sheetal Malhar, Rashi Khanna, Nargis Fakhri and Leena Maria. It has been excellently directed by Shoojit Sircar. Music Director is Shantanu Moitra. The movie belongs to Thriller genre.

This Hindi Political Spy Thriller action packed extremely fast movie revolved around early 1990s depicting civil war in Sri Lanka. Vikram Singh (John Abraham) is deputed on a special and critical mission by Intelligence Agency of India, RAW to go to Sri Lanka on a secret agenda. During his secret mission of making Anna Bhaskaran (Ajay Ratnam), a rebel leader, a powerless entity; lot of eye opening facts are revealed in life of Vikram Singh. Shoojit Sircar doesn't seem to compromise even on the minutest of the scale when he is required to direct a movie. At times the movie appears as a documentary but that is what the story is supposed to go so as to bring some amount of absorption of theme of the movie in its audience.

If you intend to watch this movie for the sake of some dances, easygoing story and lot of music, Madras Café is not meant for you. You will have to be attentive to capture the main storyline. At many places and especially during the last 15-20 minutes, you will have to hold your nerves to catch some of the most intense situations of the story. Overall I would recommend it as a Must Watch.

Movie Review: Taxi No 9211: Cool Light Movie

The morals of the story are - 


1. As long as you run after money in your life, it keeps running away from you. The moment you understand this is not what life is meant for, you get it. 


2. If you are lucky that you found your true love and by chance you are very rich too, just do away with your money and see if it takes away your true love with it. 


3. Arrogance + Arrogance + time = good friendship


This is a story of two frustrated persons. Nana Patekar who has nothing to gain in life (and hence nothing to loose too) and John Abraham who does want to loose anything in life especially those 3000 crores of money his dying father gave to his friend rather than giving to John because of John's  non-serious attitude towards work and addiction of spending money freely for his leisure. 


People who believe John Abraham can't act must watch this movie to how little johny is grooming. And people who are already Johny's fans should not miss this movie. One thing is sure for now, John is going to give a great hit someday provided he gets a director like Guru Dutt. 


Johny is now at a stage of his career where he can prove himself. Sameera Reddy has done her part well although she had not much to do in this film. Nana Paterkar's role could not be done by anybody else as perfectly as he could do and he did it. Sonali Kulkarni also did her part well as Nana's wife. Priyanka Chopra appeared only in the last scene of the movie and then disappeared in many hearts.


Storyline John Abraham is the son of a very rich businessman who dies and declares in his will to give all that belonged to him to his friend rather than giving it to John. John has another will from his father written sometime back in which he made John as the heir of  his property after his death. 


John has to produce that will in the court to prove that as the correct will so that he acquires all the property.  He smashed his car in an accident one day before he has to reach the court. Next day he hires Nana's Taxi (no. 9 2 11) to reach court and then a sequence of comiller (Comedy + Thriller) starts in which Johny looses the key of the locker from where he has to take his father's will and produce in the court. He looses the key in Nana's taxi, Nana's Taxi hits a car on a red light crossing when he tried to jump the light. Nana reached in the jail, his wife comes to know the truth that Nana is a taxi driver and not an Insurance Agent. Nana tries an attempt on John's life as it was he because of whom Nana had to go to jail. 


After few sequences they become friends, but by now both realise that what all they did was not worthy (Nana's telling his wife lies about his profession, and John's running madly after money.) and John gets to know some harsh truths of his life before getting all his father's property back to his pocket.

Movie Review: Zinda: A Movie That Forces You To THINK

Last of all a movie with a purpose. A purpose to force you to think. To think about the purpose of living, suffering.  A purpose to think about the difference between good and bad. 


A small cunning act done in school to show heroism and to impress friends could take somebody’s life, nobody thought. that small act will force that girl’s younger bro to make only one aim of life - not to take revenge from the person whose act forced his sis to suicide (a revenge is easier and quicker) but to make him realize the impact of that small act that changed everything in that girl’s life. 


Had John Abraham decided to take revenge, he would have really sold Sanjay Dutt’s daughter instead of saving her in the last, that proves that he wanted to make Sanjay realize rather than take the revenge. the purpose itself increases the weightage of movie manifolds. The small act done by Sanjay in the school days that forced the girl to kill herlself, than changed her bro’s life and ultimately the life of the software engineer who had forgotten everything that had happened as a blow of a wind and was working in a company in Hong Kong as successful software engineer, happily married and his beautiful wife going to give birth to a child.

The direction has been at best in this movie, may be because it is a reproduction of a well - made award winning movie (made in some other language in which the reason of revenge was different than this movie). I don't remember when last this type of movie was made in Bollywood. Another movie that bind me last was ’’Black’’ where direction, acting, theme everything was extremely at best.
